A few years ago I did my first of two 5K runs…stop laughing, I am not a runner. All the way up to race time I was pumped. I couldn’t wait to get started. The first mile wasn’t bad but after that, the chatterbox started kicking in, “What were you thinking?” I finished both of them because I had already committed myself to do them. I even got a trophy in the first one for being first in my age category. Of course there were only three in my age group but hey, I beat the other two.
In 1Cor 9:24-27 Paul compares our Christian walk to being a race. Like my first 5K I was excited and did good the first mile but I still had two and a half miles to go. “What was I thinking?” 32 years ago I started a new race and I am still in this race. Sure there have been a few bumps in the road. Several up hill climbs and a lot of valleys over the years. There have even been a few pit stops along the way.
Just like those 5K runs, still laughing are you, I have determined to finish this race. I am not sure I can even find that trophy I won but I know where to find my eternal reward, in God’s Grace. When life continues to throw its hurdles at you and the chatterbox keeps telling you can’t do this, remember what Dora said, “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.” It isn’t how you finish the race or even what place you’re in, it is by God Grace that we all finish. I hope to see you all at the finish line.
